the famous bots of irc.. well first you need a reason for the bot, some servers have botserv which gives you basic bot commands like !op and !kick which is very good. Some serevrs don't think this is such a good idea because it takes up lots of space on big servers and can also lag the server if it is used a lot. you can read up on services HERE

you can get a mirc bot from a lot of channel also sox-irc has made there own mirc bot which is downloadable Free from the website. but there is also a lot more that do other things like trivia bot's from mirc. but I think trivia is best played on eggdrop but we will come to that later on in this page.. but yes you can get mirc bots to keep the topic for you kick and ban on certain words. and even ato op joiners to your channel. but remember mirc bots are run on the same mirc you use with added scripts to ato trigger so that can be an advantage, like if a script is missing a bracket or need to add a user manually you can just open the window and add it like you would to your self..

Now eggdrop this is run on Unix and Linux systems if you don't know what that is then I don't think you should try doing this but I will describe it quickly, it is like windows but with out all the colour and pictures. standard Linux and Unix don't have a windows front end it is all text like you seen nice little pictures and a mouse that you can do a lot on this you cant, well now back on to eggdrop. eggdrop bots are very good if you configure it right you can download the latest eggdrop from http://egghelp.org. when you get eggdrop and ur configuring. I would use Pico as my choice as it is what I first used and got used to. there will be parts to change with "lamebot" and "lamer" where you should put your info ALSO an important part there will a DIE line when you get to this (there is two in total) you should delete the whole line or your eggdrop wont run. also make sure you set your server and also telnet ports right because if you haven't you will have to re do them.. the eggdrop is very good you can add scripts that will search google or tell the weather.. there is a lot of scripts on http://egghelp.org the scripts can do the following

INFOBOT the infobot is very good it will talk to users on your channel, the less so clever people will actually have big conversations with this bot and make friends, it comes pre fitted with lots of words but you can edit then with lines like
no infobot, sox-web is ace
this line will work every time you say soxide web it will say sox-web is ace <nick> or I believe sox-web is ace which can be every good and you can add stuff to people like infobot soxide is a v nice person

you can use this bot if you are running a business like web hosting you can program the price packages into it and when some one says infobot, package 1 it will reply with the price and a web page they can look at to see if it is what they want
